UPT Perpustakaan IAIN Kendari menggelar sosialisasi Turnitin kepada seluruh Dosen dan tenaga pendidik yang berjumlah 50 orang pada Kamis (13/4). Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan secara daring, melalui platform zoom teleconference.
Kegiatan ini merupakan kegiatan penyegaran informasi kepada Dosen dan tendik IAIN Kendari, yang mana inti dari kegiatan ini adalah pengenalan fitur baru serta optimalisasi penggunaan fitur di Turnitin sebagai proses pembelajaran akademik.
Kepala perpustakaan IAIN Kendari. Dalam sambutannya, ia menyampaikan bahwa IAIN Kendari dengan adanya turnitin di IAIN Kendari dapat menghasilkan karya tulis terbaik yang jauh dari plagiarisme.
“Ini yang pertama kali IAIN Kendari berlangganan software Turnitin dan Perpustakaan IAIN Kendari diberi kewenangan untuk mengelola Turnitin ini. Hal dimaksudkan untuk meningkatkan khasanah layanan perpustakaan dengan tujuan menghasilkan karya tulis terbaik jauh dari tindakan plagiat,”jelasnya.
Unit Perpustakaan IAIN Kendari mengundang Muhammad David Lung, seorang instruktur Turnitin Indonesia yang sudah berkiprah di dunia dunia Teknologi Pendidikan (Education Technology) .
Ia menjelaskan bahwa Turnitin merupakan perusahaan yang bergerak di bidang Teknologi Pendidikan (Education Technology). Terdapat 9 produk dari Turnitin, yang populer digunakan di Indonesia adalah feedback studio. Feedback studio adalah sebuah produk yang digunakan untuk memandu dalam menyusun karya tulis ilmiah. Fitur inilah yang digunakan untuk mengecek orisinalitas sebuah karya tulis ilmiah.
Pada awal pemaparannya, David menjelaskan definisi plagiarisme. Merujuk dari Dictionary Merriam-Webster (2020), plagiarisme adalah mengambil (ide atau kata-kata orang lain) sebagai milik sendiri; menggunakan (karya orang lain) tanpa mengkredit sumbernya. Soft plagiarism juga merupakan bagian dari plagiarisme.
David menjelaskan bahwa definisi plagiarisme dikukuhkan oleh aturan di setiap negara, termasuk Indonesia. Indonesia termasuk negara yang “agak terlambat” dalam mengukuhkan aturan self-plagiarism atau swa plagiarisme plagiarisme. Padahal, APA (American Psychological Association) tahun 2010 menyatakan bahwa soft plagiarism adalah plagiarisme. Peraturan Menteri no. 17 Tahun 2010 belum menyatakan bahwa soft plagiarism juga bagian dari plagiarisme.
“Menariknya, di Indonesia cenderung agak terlambat dalam mendefinisikan ini (definisi dan peraturan plagiarisme). Terlihat pada Peraturan Menteri no. 17 Tahun 2010 belum menyatakan secara eksplisit bahwa soft plagiarism merupakan bagian dari plagiarisme,”.
Di akhir penjelasannya, David menyampaikan bahwa Turnitin memiliki manfaat yang sangat kompleks. Oleh karenanya, Bapak/Ibu Dosen dapat menguasai fitur-fitur yang sudah ada dan mampu menghasilkan karya tulis ilmiah yang lebih baik.
“Kita tidak perlu mendapatkan similarity score sampai 0%. Skor yang tinggi belum tentu ada indikasi plagiarisme, dan skor rendah belum tentu bebas plagiarisme atau pelanggaran lainnya,” tutur David dalam pemaparannya.
